In order to find out how much potential power is left in the car battery in your vehicle, all you need is a voltmeter and a little guidance.

  • To start, be sure the lights in your car and the ignition are both off.
  • If the car battery terminal has any corrosion that appears to block the connection, clear it away with a wire brush.
  • The red cable on your voltmeter is usually positive, and will go on the positive end of the car battery.
  • The black cable is negative, connect it securely to the negative terminal on the car battery.
  • The meter will show a reading of 12.4 or better if the car battery is in good shape. If the meter shows anything under 12.2, it may be time to get the battery serviced.

Bring your car to our service center at Gurley-Leep Lincoln today and one of our technicians will give the car battery a complete check.
